The Golden State Warriors may be the defending NBA champs, but they have struggled almost inexplicably this season.
Yes, they have had injuries, such as the ones to Stephen Curry, but they have sputtered every time they have tried to build momentum no matter how healthy they have been, and their issues seem to run deeper than who is available on any given night.
Star forward Andrew Wiggins has been out for the team’s last five games due to a personal matter, but the good news is that, according to general manager Bob Myers, he shouldn’t be out that much longer.

Over the last year or two, Wiggins has emerged as arguably Golden State’s second-best player, and he has become a versatile two-way player who started in last season’s All-Star game.
But when he arrived in Golden State about three years ago, there were plenty of doubts about whether he would fit into head coach Steve Kerr’s championship culture and style and play.
While with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Wiggins was known as a low-efficiency gunner who had a lukewarm interest in defense, but he reinvented himself soon after coming to California.
In the 2020-21 season, he improved his 3-point shooting accuracy from 33.2 percent to 38.0 percent, and he started to improve on the defensive end.
By last spring and summer, he was an indispensable part of the Warriors, and his defense on Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum was a major reason they won their fourth world title in eight years.
If the Warriors are to do anything of note in this year’s playoffs, Wiggins will have to be available and fully focused.
