Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a night to remember on Wednesday night, belting three home runs in a 6-4 win over the New York Yankees.
But the game of baseball is strange and found a way to change some things just a day later.
On the heels of his night to remember, Guerrero had a night to forget on Thursday, going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
In much simpler terms, Guerrero earned himself a Golden Sombrero.
In fact, Guerrero is the first player to have a four-strikeout game on the heels of a three-homer game since Major League Baseball began tracking strikeouts as an official stat (1910 in the NL, 1913 in the AL).

The Tomfoolery Of Baseball
This is some unfortunate history to be a part of, but it just goes to show how crazy the game of baseball can truly be.
It’s so rare for things like this to happen, but again, it’s baseball.
One should always expect the unexpected when it comes to a game such as this.
It also goes to show that the craziest and worst things can happen to some of the best in the business.
Though it is rare, it’s more common than one would think.
The baseball gods can do the strangest things.
This game is certainly a fickle one.
It’s anyone’s guess as to why the game is like this.
What is for sure is that Guerrero has become part of some unfortunate history.
But if he can follow up a three-homer game with a four-strikeout game, who’s to say he can’t follow up last night’s performance with yet another breakout.
Maybe he’ll hit four home runs tonight.
You never know.
