Every time Shohei Ohtani takes the field for an official game, history is bound to be made.
Just like that, every time he steps in the batter’s box for a few practice swings, he’s likely about to put on a show for those present.
The Los Angeles Angels star is in camp practicing with his teammates for a few days before heading to Team Japan’s camp to prepare for the World Baseball Classic.
He will even play a couple of spring training games and pitch on February 28 before leaving on March 1.
You can see he is taking batting practice in all seriousness.
Well, you can hear it, too.

As reporter Sarah Valenzuela says in her tweet, batting practice is actually Home Run Derby practice for the two-way star.
We have already seen it in Home Run Derbies: Ohtani’s raw power is probably top five in the league.
He is a big guy: tall, muscles, and very athletic.
He has a lot of lower-body strength, and his quick, explosive hips generate tons of power.
It’s not a coincidence that he has hit 80 home runs in the last two seasons with the Angels.
Given that he is also capable of performing like an ace on the mound, we would say he is a pretty special player.
He is so good and productive that he has a chance to be baseball’s first $500 million player after the World Series, when he negotiates his next contract.
He will enter free agency and contenders will line up for him.
