The Boston Celtics needed a win on Wednesday night.
Headed into Game 3 against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, the Celtics wanted to secure a 2-1 lead at home.
They knew that could change the direction of the series in a huge way, especially since there would be one more game in TD Garden before going back to California.
They needed the belief of their fans, their staff, and themselves.
And maybe an NFL icon too.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft made an appearance in Boston’s locker room following the team’s huge victory over the Warriors.
Kraft was all about the team, supporting them, praising them, and telling them how special they are.
The team looked on with joy as Kraft shared his love.
Even their reserved head coach, Ime Udoka, couldn’t help but crack a smile as Kraft talked.
Boston Bonds
The Celtics are currently trying to win their first Finals in years, cementing themselves as the team with the most NBA championships in history.
By doing so, they are bringing pride to the entire Boston region.
Kraft knows a thing or two about that because his Patriots are a football franchise like none other.
But the Celtics still have one major obstacle to get through before they can declare victory: the Warriors.
Yes, the Celtics were able to put them away on Wednesday night but there is no way the Warriors won’t try to right their wrongs and come back stronger than ever for Friday’s Game 4.
If Golden State can secure a win then, the series will return to the Bay Area tied.
Yes, Boston had a great night on Wednesday but the fight isn’t over yet.
Everyone, including Kraft, knows that.
