On Monday, Team USA came into their matchup against Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic with something to prove.
The team had been dealt a tough blow on Sunday night when they fell to Team Mexico by a final of 11-5.
But after starter Lance Lynn set the tone with a perfect first inning, Team USA’s bats woke up and scored nine runs in the bottom half, punctuated by Mike Trout‘s three-run homer.
Team USA ultimately won 12-1 and finished the game early by virtue of the WBC’s mercy rule.
On Twitter, the official account for the WBC posted a slow-motion video of the Los Angeles Angels star’s home run.

In the video, fans can get a good look at the swing Trout put on this ball.
It’s clear that Trout, like the rest of us, knew the ball was gone the second it left the bat.
That ultimately capped off a huge first inning for Team USA, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Lynn pitched five innings and allowed just one run on two hits, one of which was a solo home run by Chicago Cubs prospect Jared Young.
But that didn’t stop Team USA from continuing their onslaught against Canada.
However, Trout’s home run was the story of the game.
Team USA was in desperate need of a win on Monday and rebounded from Sunday’s defeat in perfect fashion.
Trout’s swing was right on point as he delivered the game’s biggest blow, guiding the Americans to a much-needed win.
