Those who said the New York Yankees couldn’t beat good teams and had built their amazing 47-16 record by beating bad clubs were proven wrong on Thursday night.
They earned another walk-off victory, this time over the Tampa Bay Rays, to complete a series sweep in Yankee Stadium.
The 2-1 game was decided by a magical blast by Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
It was the Yankees’ 14th straight home win and seventh consecutive victory overall.
They remain the best team in baseball by a wide margin and have a 10-game cushion over the second-placed team in the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays.
With things tied at one in the bottom of the ninth, the Yankees first baseman greeted Rays hurler Shawn Armstrong with a huge drive to right-center field that ended the game.
The Yankees’ Twitter account uploaded a video in which Rizzo’s blast goes deep into the New York night: you can actually see the ball soaring and disappearing.

Nobody Beats The Rizz
The Yankees had fallen behind on a Francisco Mejia solo home run, but Rizzo himself tied it up with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Three innings later, he was winning the game for the Bronx Bombers.
Once he reached home plate, the celebrations started: he was greeted by his teammates and cheered by the whole stadium.
The Yankees are currently dominating the league and have no clear weak spots, and they have managed to navigate the small weaknesses they may have showed.
Them being this good has been a complete team effort.
On Thursday, however, the night belonged to Rizzo: he was the hero of the game.
