The last few years have been rough for the Indianapolis Colts at the quarterback position, with the team doing everything within its power to rebound from the sudden retirement of superstar quarterback Andrew Luck in 2019.
Luck is not a quarterback that can be replaced immediately, and the team may never find a player as talented as the former No. 1 pick, but Jim Irsay and company are trying, as the team has made an effort to upgrade the position every year.
Unfortunately, last season didn’t work out as planned as veteran quarterback Matt Ryan proved not to be the answer under center, another hurdle for this franchise looking to be competitive again in the AFC.
In 2023, the franchise has decided to go in a different direction, with the team bringing in a rookie to help pave the way for a promising future.
The Colts chose to draft Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida, and on Friday, fans of the team got their first look at him throwing the football around as a Colt via Nate Atkins of the Indy Star.

In his first connection with a Colts teammate on the field, Richardson threw a pass to fellow rookie Josh Downs, formerly of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

At this point, there’s no telling what the Colts will get out of Richardson in his first season with the team.
There’s no guarantee that Richardson will see the field if veteran Gardner Minshew wins the training camp battle for the top spot on the depth chart.
Regardless of the immediate future, Indianapolis seems confident they’ve got the future face of the franchise on the team.
