Max Scherzer seems excited to get going with the New York Mets in 2022.
The right-hander joined the Mets on a three-year, $130 million deal just days before the lockout was instituted by the owners.
With that now lifted, Scherzer can prepare to suit up for his new team and make Mets fans happy.
Scherzer was even quoted saying that it’s fun to have the New York crowd on his side after having spent so many years with the Washington Nationals, a fierce division rival.
But a video from 2016 shows Scherzer, still a National at the time, playing catch with a young Mets fan in the stands prior to a game between the two teams.

A Longtime Ally
This ultimately proves that Scherzer has always been a friend to the fans in New York.
It’s always nice to see players playing catch with fans, especially kids.
But he has always been an ally to Mets fans in that sense.
Now, that young fan can look back on that day when he and Scherzer played a little catch and not only fondly remember it, but do so knowing that now, the longtime Nationals ace is now a part of his favorite ballclub, the Mets.
That certainly has to have this fan in particular very excited.
He got to play catch with a major leaguer inside a ballpark, not knowing that that player would one day join his team, and now the day has come where Scherzer is a part of the Mets’ family.
And Scherzer likely remembers this fondly as well.
Now, he can play catch with Mets fans on the side as a member of the Mets, and you can bet that’s one of many things that has him excited to play in New York.
