The young Indiana Pacers have shocked the NBA this season.
They were supposed to be bottom-feeders and contending for the first-overall pick, yet they’re 23-18 and sixth in the Eastern Conference and playing excellent basketball.
Most of this turnaround can be credited to Tyrese Haliburton and his stellar play.
The young guard is having an All-Star caliber season, leading the league in assists per game and pulling the strings of their offense.
Moreover, Haliburton believes the best is still far ahead for the young Pacers, drawing parallels between them and the Memphis Grizzlies:
“It’s hard not to [get excited about the future], right? We’re all excited about it,” Haliburton told Fansided. “I think the gains that we’ll see in the next two-to-three years are coming from today. It’s easy for young teams in the league to not win and be like, ‘We’re trying to build’ or whatever. But, man, we have a chance. We have a chance to win some games. We’ve been surprising some people throughout this year, so we’re just focused on every day, how we get better. It’s kind of like Memphis, right? You got a young group of guys together who learn from each other and work every day, and now they’re one of the best teams in the league. That’s what we’re trying to get to.”

Even if they lose Buddy Hield and/or Myles Turner, the Pacers have a young and promising core to build around.
So, hopefully, they’ll continue to stay patient with this roster and allow them to grow though their mistakes to become a legit contender.
