All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu will be on an NFL free agency tour, and there’s no pressure for him to rush his decision.

Nine teams might be interested in acquiring him, per Jordan Schultz.

If all of those teams brought him in for a visit, it would take time before he decided.

He could announce his new team, like how college prospects choose their team during National Signing Day.

But kidding aside, he’s earned the right for a lengthy discernment to determine the best situation.

Mathieu started the visits with his hometown team, as New Orleans Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill shared.

Tyrann Mathieu met with Mickey Loomis, Dennis Allen and other staff. The visit was mostly just a casual and for everyone to get to know one another. Mathieu toured the facility. All doors remain open.

Underhill tweeted, “Tyrann Mathieu met with Mickey Loomis, Dennis Allen, and other staff. The visit was mostly just a casual and for everyone to get to know one another. Mathieu toured the facility. All doors remain open.”

Saints The Frontrunners For Mathieu?

After being born and raised in New Orleans, Mathieu went to college at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Therefore, the Saints have the emotional edge in signing the “Honey Badger.”

But if the Saints will have the inside track to sign Mathieu, they must find a way to clear more money off their books.

He might command a contract with an annual value of around $15 million, around the amount he got from the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, New Orleans’ cap space is $24 million, and they have to pay their draft picks and practice players.

Realistically, the Saints can offer Mathieu a contract with a $5 million base salary in 2022.

If he agrees, they might have more cap issues down the road because they have to defer some of his compensation.
