The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-5 and two games out of first place in the super competitive AFC West division.
Both the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers are ahead of the Chiefs.
The Broncos are tied with the Chiefs.
All of this spells trouble for a fanbase who has been spoiled by the winning ways of this team.
The Chiefs have won the AFC West division each season since 2016, and they are the two-time AFC Champions in 2019 and 2020.
Those same Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2020.
Yes, there have been troubles this year.
Mahomes is trying to be Superman, and the defense is lackluster at best.
With all of this as an aside, let’s get to the issue at hand.
Chiefs players and disgruntled fans had a war of words on social media.
How It Started

A Chiefs fan reportedly listed the three worst moves from Chiefs GM Brett Veach.
In the running was linebacker Anthony Hitchens’ contract, a 5 year $45 million dollar deal, which ends after the 2022 season.
Hitchens took issue with the comment and did not hold back on his opinions about the KC fans in general.
“All we did was go to 3 AFC championship games and 2 Super Bowls and 1 SB win in my first 3 years here so far, y’all fans will never be satisfied it’s sad!”
Tyrann Mathieu and Anthony Hitchens both dissed the Chiefs fan base in an Instagram comment recently.😯 #Chiefs #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/dSlDRrgQBB

Chiefs’ Safety Tyrann Mathieu Jumps Into It
Matthieu wanted to support his teammate so he jumped in on the social media foray also.
“This might be one of the most toxic fan bases in all of sports.”
The banter did not stop there.
When a fan told Mathieu he would not be in KC next season, Mathieu answered:
“somebody gon pay me. I’m too smart & im too good!”
Another fan decided to state the obvious, and Mathieu was not having that either.
“you’re paid millions of dollars to play a game”
Mathieu clapped back by saying.
“you should have been a football player then.”
Everybody Is Frustrated
I love Tyrann Mathieu. I love his effort, his leadership and playing ability.
Calling the Chiefs fanbase one of the most toxic kinda blows my mind though. He’s been absolutely loved in his time in KC, even now. Fans are allowed to be shocked/concerned with 3-4 start. Chill bro

It is obvious everyone in Kansas City is frustrated.
Though it is early in the season, the Chiefs have not played well.
They need to hit their stride and hope the Raiders and Chargers slide.
It is still possible.
In the meantime, nothing good comes out of fans and players bickering on social media.
Fans can be brutal, but players need to rise about it and behave like professionals.
Tyrann Mathieu says the comments yesterday on social media were "a mistake." He adds, "I haven't had the season I wanted to have. Frustration tends to build up."

Mathieu has since expressed regret for his comments, which is a good thing, so that everyone can move on and focus on football.
