There has not much to cheer about in 2022 if you’re a fan of the Cincinnati Reds.

The team went on a fire sale after the lockout and left the team with only a few stars.

But on Tuesday night, right-hander Tyler Mahle helped the Reds and their fans forget about their struggles for a little bit.

Mahle went out to the mound and pitched the game of his life against the Arizona Diamondbacks, throwing nine shutout innings, striking out 12, allowing just three hits, and not walking a single batter.

Unfortunately, he did not get a decision, but the Reds still managed to win the ballgame.

Bally Sports Cincinnati tweeted a video of Mahle’s postgame interview and included a caption with his line for the evening.

Mahle Goes The Distance…Almost

What a job by Mahle.

He went out there and dominated these Diamondbacks.

It’s just a shame he was unable to earn a decision, as the game was still scoreless at the end of nine innings.

Either way, Mahle basically threw the game of his life.

It’s been a tough year for Mahle to say the least.

In 14 starts, he’s 2-5 with a 4.46 ERA over 74.2 innings, but he flashed his ace potential on Tuesday and had one of the best starts of his career.

Perhaps this start will help get him going in the right direction.

The only thing that would have made it better is if he was able to get a win out of it.

Mahle may be somebody that teams looking for a starting pitcher may consider at the trade deadline.

We’ll see if this performance garners any attention from other teams who may need to plug a hole in their rotation.
