The Jacksonville Jaguars have been getting their money’s worth out of their 2021 first-overall draft pick, Trevor Lawrence.
Not only has Lawrence stepped up his play on-field this season, but he is also turning into a proven leader off of the field as well.
“I let the team down. I’ll never forget how I felt in that locker room and it was like, ‘I don’t want to feel like this anymore’… I don’t forget what’s been said & what people have written.” 🔥@Trevorlawrencee on his struggles this season & playing with a chip on his shoulder. pic.twitter.com/rvtLTUhCRB

One of the ways that you can identify leadership qualities in a particular individual is how they react to stress and duress.
When a player of Lawrence’s caliber enters a locker room, they can act entitled, and often, like they own the place.
Being the first overall pick in the NFL Draft is a true honor, but has been yielded in different ways throughout the years.
In his comments in the video above, Lawrence takes full accountability for any shortcomings or downfalls that the Jaguars have encountered this season.
Lawrence’s On-Field Leadership
Off of the field, it’s apparent that Lawrence has command of the Jaguars’ locker room, as he has proven to be a person of integrity.
This has translated nicely onto the field this season, as he has improved mightily since his rookie campaign just a year ago.
Lawrence’s completion percentage has risen over six points this season.
Although this hasn’t necessarily translated to more wins for the Jaguars, it’s a step in the right direction.
Will Lawrence be able to rise to the occasion in 2023?
In recent years, we’ve seen quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts to take a big step in their play during their third NFL season, resulting in more wins for their organization.
