They finally did it: the Atlanta Hawks made their move and they have traded for Dejounte Murray of the San Antonio Spurs.
Atlanta’s acquisition of Murray is a huge shake-up for the both the Hawks and Spurs: for the Spurs, it pretty much means they’re committing to a rebuild and will fall to the bottom of the Western Conference.
As for the Hawks, this move has a chance to greatly improve their playoff chances.
Murray really could be the piece this team has been missing.
This 💩 just got real

That’s what Trae Young thinks.
Following the news of Murray’s move, Young hopped on Twitter to celebrate and directly mention Murray, saying, “Let’s get busy my Brotha.”
There is no denying that this trade is great news for the Hawks.
Doubling Down On Their Defense
After a very disappointing season, the Hawks are about to see a huge increase in their defensive talent.
Murray will become a centerpiece for Atlanta’s defense, with his ability to block shots as well as make them.
He led the team in steals last season and will take that sort of never-give-up, in-your-face mentality to Atlanta.
The Hawks had awful defense last season, sitting towards the bottom of the league.
Expect that to change.
But Murray is a two-way player, he stops shots and he makes them.
This will take some of the pressure off of Young and will also give him someone to connect with on the court every game.
It’s hard to find an angle that makes this trade look bad for the Hawks: anyway you cut it, it’s a very promising choice by Atlanta.
The pieces are in place for the Hawks to surge next season.
