When pre-season predictions are made or power rankings are revealed at any point in sports, the bigger market teams are the ones that seem to get the most love from the so-called “experts.”
Sometimes, those teams end up dominating.
Other times, not so much.
But right now, as we enter the second month of the 2022 MLB regular season, the big market teams are the ones dominating.
Somehow though, this is the first time in baseball history that all four New York and Los Angeles teams are leading their divisions at the same time.
The Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the AL and NL West divisions, respectively, and the New York Yankees and New York Mets are doing the same in the eastern divisions.

Big Markets, Big Winners
It’s surprising that this is the first time this has ever happened, but the big market teams are the ones that are dominating right now.
The Angels and Dodgers are the kings in the West while the Mets and Yankees are the kings in the East.
The Mets and Yankees had the top two records in baseball entering yesterday’s slate of games.
For the most part, things are playing out as the experts would have predicted.
All four teams were expected to be in contention in 2022 and that is the case as we enter May.
The only real surprise is that the Angels are at the top of the AL West, when the Houston Astros were heavily favored to win their fifth division title in the last six years.
But when the big markets are dominating, that’s good for TV ratings all across the sport.
