On Thursday, the Los Angeles Times wrote a piece revealing that the Los Angeles Dodgers had been discussing a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, partially centered around Nolan Arenado.
While it appears unlikely that the Cardinals will trade Arenado, this certainly is an interesting report.
Arenado grew up in Southern California and was a fan of the Dodgers.
Adding him to their lineup would make the already formidable Dodgers a serious threat for a National League pennant.
On MLB Network, Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated speculated on these rumors and stated that he believes it is very possible the Dodgers could swing a deal with the Cards for Arenado.

Verducci believes this rumor makes sense and discussed the package that the Dodgers would have to send to St. Louis in order to bring Arenado aboard.
The Dodgers would need to send a haul of pitchers with swing-and-miss capabilities, which is something that St. Louis is currently lacking, and has been for some time.
The Dodgers have plenty of young pitchers with strikeout stuff that could benefit St. Louis.
Verducci believes that even though Arenado has four years left on his contract with the Cardinals, the Dodgers could pick him up and still be in on Shohei Ohtani this coming winter when he hits free agency.
Ultimately, it would all depend on if Arenado would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Los Angeles.
With five days to go until the trade deadline, this will be an interesting story to follow.
However, all signs point to St. Louis holding onto Arenado.
