The National Football League can divide its history into the pre and post-Tom Brady eras.
Brady’s legendary career is something worthy of a biopic, from being the 199th overall pick to becoming the greatest quarterback of all time.
That’s why Tennessee Titans star Taylor Lewan proposed the NFL should retire No. 12 now that he’s decided to walk away from the game for good.

As crazy as it may seem, that wouldn’t be much of a far-fetched idea, as the NBA recently retired Bill Russell’s No. 6, albeit under very different circumstances, as he had just passed away.
If someone deserves an honor like that, it’s definitely Tom Brady.
He has a non-losing record against every single team in the league and a positive point differential against all but three teams (Saints, Chiefs, and 49ers.)
Brady reached the Super Bowl in nearly 50% of his seasons, winning seven of them — an NFL record.
He also set and broke pretty much every single quarterback-related mark in league history, playing at an elite level for over two decades.
You could break down Brady’s career into three eras, and he’d be a first-ballot Hall of Famer for each of those careers, which speaks volumes of his durability and greatness in the gridiron.
He may not have the strongest arm, the most mobility, athleticism, or speed, or he may not even be the most talented quarterback.
But he did what no one else was cable of doing, and there’s a chance no one will ever match his near-perfect résumé.
