Things didn’t really pan out as expected for the Timberwolves last year.
They were one of the most exciting teams coming into 2022-23 because of the acquisition of Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz.
The belief was that the combination of Gobert, Towns, and Anthony Edwards would be too much for the rest of the Western Conference.
In the end, the new lineup didn’t perform as fans had hoped and the Timberwolves struggled to get to the playoffs.
They were then easily eliminated in the opening round by the eventual champions, the Denver Nuggets.
As for Towns, 2022-23 wasn’t a highlight of his career.
His average of 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists was a step down from what he had been doing in previous seasons.
Part of that was because Towns was adjusting to the team’s new lineup and changes.
Additionally, Towns only played in 29 games for the season due to a nagging injury that he had a hard time getting past.
All in all, it was a season that Towns would happily put in his rearview mirror.
In just a few weeks, he will try to move on and give Timberwolves fans something to be excited about.
