The Detroit Tigers had themselves a busy offseason, making some serious marquee additions with the signings of Javier Baez and Eduardo Rodriguez and the trade that landed them Austin Meadows.
It looked like this could be special season in the Motor City, with Miguel Cabrera chasing 3,000 hits.
Unfortunately, none of the big additions seem to have panned out and not much has gone right outside of Cabrera reaching the milestone.
The Tigers have not tasted the postseason since 2014, and they’ll have to wait at least one more year.
With their 6-3 loss to the Houston Astros last night, the Tigers were officially eliminated from postseason contention.

Tigers Eliminated
It’s been a rough go of things for the Tigers and their fans.
There hasn’t really been anything to cheer about since 2014.
They haven’t even won a playoff game since Game 4 of the 2013 ALCS.
Much like the Los Angeles Angels, the additions that were made in the offseason did nothing to help them and quite simply did not pan out.
The Tigers sit at 54-88 and look to be on pace for a potential 100+ loss season.
They’re a far cry from where they once were and don’t appear to have much hope of crawling out of the hole they’ve dug themselves anytime soon.
And thus, Tigers fans were reminded of a sad reality that they’re all too familiar with now.
Once again, there will be no postseason baseball in the Motor City.
Even the arrival of Spencer Torkelson couldn’t save them.
Now, the Tigers will look towards the future as they unpack the disappointing reality of a season that looked to be promising, but one that ended in failure.
