New York Yankees catcher Jose Trevino was one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2022 season for the Bombers.
A career backup-type, Trevino’s offensive limitations had prevented him from getting too much playing time with the Texas Rangers, his team from 2018 to 2021.
The Yankees, before the start of the 2022 campaign, swung a trade with the Rangers to get Trevino, sending promising relief pitcher Albert Abreu to the lone star state in return.
It proved to be the most important move of the offseason for New York.
After a successful campaign, Trevino became a fan favorite because of his defensive prowess and love for the Yankees.
The catcher is turning 30 today, and the Yanks made sure to send him a salute to celebrate his day.
“Happy Birthday to our Platinum Glove Award winner, @HipHipJose5!!” the team tweeted on Monday morning.

Fans interacted with the post, wishing Trevino the best.
As the organization pointed out in the tweet, Trevino was recognized with a Gold Glove and the Platinum Glove award in the American League for his contributions with the mitt, behind the plate.
The Best Framer In The Game
No catcher in baseball was as good as Trevino in “framing”, the art of deceiving umpires and stealing strikes that are actually balls.
He had 19 Framing Runs and 21 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), both top marks for a catcher in MLB.
Trevino didn’t light the world on fire with his bat, but was decent with a .248/.283/.388 and 11 home runs.
With his defensive excellence, the Yankees were more than happy to accommodate his slightly-below average bat.
Now the Yanks’ unquestioned starter at catcher, Trevino is surely having a great day surrounded by family and loved ones.
