The Yankees Lineup Is Already Stacked With Power

The New York Yankees may not have had the most impressive offseason so far, but their lineup still carries some serious thump.

Even in a year in which their offense was considered lackluster, the Bronx Bombers tied for the sixth-most home runs in MLB last season, with 222.

After bringing in third baseman Josh Donaldson and re-signing Anthony Rizzo on Tuesday night, their lineup is slowly taking shape, although there are still a couple of moves to be done.

The Talkin’ Yanks Twitter account posted a preview of the Yankees’ batting order, and the first six names are awfully impressive.

Rizzo is an on-base machine who could hit 20-25 homers at this point, but Judge, Stanton, Donaldson, and Gallo all have the upside to hit 35 or more.

In fact, all four have hit 40 bombs in a season at least once, so they know a thing or two about power.

The Yankees Could Make Their Lineup Even Better

Torres and Hicks are two Yankees’ reclamation projects: the former has seen his progress stalled over the last two seasons, especially in the power department, but still carries considerable upside; while the latter has been fighting injuries and is looking to regain his best form.

Kiner-Falefa and Rortvedt are not known for their offense, and that’s exactly where the Yankees could look to improve.

Shortstops Trevor Story and Carlos Correa remain available, and the Yankees have money to spend.

As for the catcher position, the most notable upgrades would be via trade, where Willson Contreras and Sean Murphy could be available.

The Yankees should make at least one more major move to keep up with the rest of the division, but their lineup is explosive nonetheless.
