The Golden State Warriors are known for a few things: their incredible win record, their growing number of championship rings, and the Splash Brothers of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
Most everyone agrees that Curry will likely end his career with the Warriors – he’s said that’s his plan and he has shown every intention of following it.
But what about Thompson: is he going to retire as a Warrior?

Thompson’s future with the team doesn’t seem as clear based on the latest news coming from Golden State.
Zach Lowe is reporting that the team’s front office “did not hold substantive discussions” with Thompson about a new contract during this past offseason.
Because of this news, some fans are panicking while others are remaining calm.
Thompson’s career is at an interesting point right now – what does this mean for his path forward in Golden State?
Thompson’s Current Turmoil
Thompson spent more than two years off the court as he recovered from a very serious injury and a long rehabilitation process.
During that time, the Warriors worked to fill the void he left but they also saved him a seat.
Thompson came back in the middle of the 2021-22 season and, unsurprisingly, it took him some time to shake the rust off.
In fact, he is still showing signs of clunkiness that weren’t common before.
His averages have dwindled a bit: he’s gone from 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists a game before his injury to 15 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists this year.
Thompson just isn’t as reliable as he once was – is this why the Warriors didn’t sit him down and talk about his contract?
There is a chance – a good one, in fact – that the Warriors have every intention of extending Thompson’s contract and will have that discussion with him soon.
But the fact that this news comes at such a complex time in his career makes some people concerned.
