The Houston Texans are not a good football team.
Their offense is 28th in yards per game and 28th in points per game.
Their defense is giving up the third-most yards per game and is allowing their opponents to score 23 points per game, which is tied for the 10th-worst in the NFL.
They are focused on the future.
In addition to the Texans, the Panthers also put in a claim for WR Amari Rodgers, a 2021 third round pick for the Packers, per source.
Houston has top priority right now and can mine the waiver wire for young, developmental players.

Because of their poor play and record of 1-7-1 on the season, the Texans have first dibs on the waiver wire.
If there are players that they believe will help them will in the future, they can acquire them before any other team can do so.
2023 And Beyond
After trading away players like Deshaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins, and Jadeveon Clowney in the past few seasons, the Texans will finally be in a position to grow, provided they draft well.
In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans have an astounding number of picks, 11.
This includes two first-rounders, a second-rounder, two third-rounders, a fourth and fifth-rounder, and four sixth-rounders.
When you add in waiver claims and free agency in the offseason, the Texans will have ample opportunity to add to their young, rebuilding roster.
The Texans currently hold the worst record in the NFL, but the Las Vegas Raiders are right on their heels with a 2-7 record.
Assuming that the Texans will enter the draft with the first overall draft selection, one can only wonder if they will take a quarterback, or if they will look elsewhere.
The 2023 draft class will be loaded with offensive talent, which this team is in desperate need of.
For the Texans’ sake, let’s hope that they choose wisely.
