The Kansas City Royals added to their depth over the weekend.
On Saturday, the team agreed to terms with veteran infielder Johan Camargo on a minor league contract.
Camargo came to the big leagues in 2017 with the Atlanta Braves and was one of the team’s key young players.
In 2019, the 29-year-old had his best season to date, hitting .272 with 19 home runs, 76 RBI, and an OPS of .806.
Since then, Camargo’s production has declined.
He spent the 2022 season with the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting three home runs and driving in just 15 while hitting for a poor .237 average.
But the Royals are giving the former slugger a chance.
They announced the news of the signing via Twitter.

Camargo does bring some useful tools to the table for the Royals and could have a chance to make the Opening Day roster out of spring training.
In addition to his power, he can play multiple positions on the infield, most notably third base, shortstop, and second base.
He also is a switch hitter and brings a veteran presence to a relatively young Royals clubhouse.
The Royals didn’t have much success in 2022, finishing with a 65-97 record and coming in last place in the AL Central.
The team fired its manager in Mike Matheny at the end of the season, replacing him with former Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro.
Camargo will join forces with a familiar face in Kansas City, reuniting with former Atlanta Braves prospect Drew Waters.
The Royals have also signed pitchers Ryan Yarbrough and Aroldis Chapman.
