With a dismal 15-48 record, the Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the Eastern Conference and have about a zero percent chance of making the playoffs this season.
Even though that is true, the team is still playing hard every night as a way to find better chemistry, work on their lineup, and find out what works and what doesn’t.
Wednesday night gave a prime example of what growing pains look like in the NBA.
The Pistons had a chance to win the game or send it to overtime until Jaden Ivey called a timeout that the team did not have…

The game was entering the last ten seconds and the Pistons were down by only two points behind the Chicago Bulls.
They had a chance to tie things up but then Jaden Ivey made a tough rookie mistake.
He called a timeout, which happens often in close, high-intensity situations.
The only problem was the Pistons didn’t have a timeout and calling for one that doesn’t exist is a technical foul.
This meant that the Bulls got the ball and, only seconds later, the win.
The look on head coach Dwane Casey’s face said it all: no one on the Pistons roster was happy with Ivey’s mistake.
Things like this happen for newcomers in the league as they figure out how to play on such a big stage.
The incident was surely embarrassing for Ivey but he’s had a season he should be proud of.
During his first year, he has put up 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.
He has become a special part of the team’s lineup and will surely be front-and-center with the Pistons when next season begins.
The longer he plays, the better he’ll get and the less likely mistakes like this will be made.
