With NFL training camp and preseason underway, competitive juices start to boil.
In HBO’s Hard Knocks alone, we saw Detroit Lions assistant head coach Duce Staley and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn become competitive during scrimmages.
They would even have some verbal banter every time one side completes a play.
Then there have been times when teammates throw fits at each other.
If those tense moments happen within one team, imagine the intensity during scrimmages of two teams.
It is a regular practice for two teams to conduct practices with one another.
Typically, these are squads that won’t see each other unless they both reach that season’s Super Bowl.
That way, they don’t have to worry about revealing their schemes.
But once you pit two teams against each other, confrontations may happen even if the result doesn’t count.
That’s what happened during the scrimmage between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman tweeted, “Apparently the #Patriots and #Panthers can’t go 10 minutes in a joint practice without fighting each other.”
Of course, the fights are their way of protecting their tribe, especially when they feel like the other side is trying to pull a fast one on them.
Different Sides Of The Spectrum
The Patriots are hoping to make a postseason return for the second straight year.
For that to happen, they will need a better performance from quarterback Mac Jones.
Meanwhile, the Panthers wish to turn things around after missing the playoffs over the last four seasons.
Head coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat and another losing campaign might cost him his job.
He and the Panthers hope that quarterback Baker Mayfield will make a difference for the squad.
