With a 77-64 record in 2022, the San Diego Padres are currently in possession of the sixth and final playoff berth in the National League.
Still, they have work to do on the field because the 75-66 Milwaukee Brewers are just two games behind the Padres for that spot.
Not having Fernando Tatis Jr. (injured and suspended) has really hurt the club, but they have put together a competitive team and are currently reaping the benefits.
Not only are they competing to return to October, but also, fans are showing up at Petco Park.
“San Diego Padres announce they have set a franchise record for most sellouts in a single season (25). Investing in your team actually works. Who would have thought?,” MLB analyst Danny Vietti tweeted.

Yes, we will say it again in case a couple of owners in the back didn’t listen: investing in your team will bring in people to the stadium.
Filling The Stadium Is Good For Everybody
That’s good for advertisers, merchandise vendors, concession stands, TV ratings, and many additional things.
The Padres aren’t playoff locks, yet people keep going to the stadium.
Why?
Because they want to see Yu Darvish pitch, Joe Musgrove dominate hitters, Manny Machado impacting the game with a clutch homer or a defensive gem, or Juan Soto hitting with the game on the line.
People will go to the stadium to watch good players in action; and they won’t go if the roster isn’t competitive.
It’s that simple.
Hopefully, the Padres can keep showing the world that they really care about winning, because they do.
Even without Tatis, they have enough firepower to hold off the Brewers and get into the October party.
