For years, people refused to think of the Denver Nuggets as legit contenders.
In reality, there wasn’t a player since Carmelo Anthony that made fans and analysts think that they had what it takes to go the distance.
So, despite their homecourt advantage thanks to Colorado’s height, it always seemed like they were a star or two away from actual contention.
That’s no longer the case.
Nikola Jokic is legitimately one of the best three players in the league this season, and the Nuggets have put together an impressive roster around him.
As of now, they have the best record in the West, are one game behind the Boston Celtics for the best record in the league, have the second-best offensive rating, rank first in both field goal percentage and three-point percentage, and second in total assists.
On top of that, they’ve won fifteen straight games at home, as noted by StatMuse.

Jokic had already put his team on his shoulders last season when Michael Porter Jr. and Jamal Murray were out with an injury.
So, it was expected for them to take even another step forward this year with both back to full strength.
But then again, Mike Malone’s team has exceeded all expectations thus far, with Jokic playing the best defense of his career and the team knocking down contenders night in and night out.
Of course, the playoffs will be a whole different story, but we wouldn’t rush to count this team out, regardless of the rival.
