The NFL‘s schedule-makers must have had a crystal ball before finalizing the games for the 2022 season.
Not only have they completed the opponents for each team but they have also created drama in Week 1 alone.
Week 1 QB reunion games:
🏈 Baker Mayfield faces the Browns
🏈 Russell Wilson faces the Seahawks
🏈 Joe Flacco could face the Ravens— Field Yates (@FieldYates) August 22, 2022
ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted some of the intriguing matchups on the opening weekend of the upcoming season.
First off, Baker Mayfield was recently named the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback after trading for him last month.
In return, the Cleveland Browns received a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft which becomes a fourth-rounder if Mayfield plays 70 percent of the snaps.
Payback is on Mayfield’s mind after the Browns essentially discarded him after they successfully traded for Deshaun Watson.
The Browns also doubled down on the Pro Bowl quarterback after signing him to a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed deal.
Aside from defeating the Browns, the satisfaction will be Mayfield’s because he will also collect a huge portion of his 2022 paycheck from the squad.
Broncos Versus Seahawks, Jets Versus Ravens
On the other hand, Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
Wilson was traded to the Broncos for five draft picks and three players (Noah Fant, Drew Lock, Shelby Harris).
He will have a chance to defeat the team that drafted him, won a Super Bowl with, and dealt him away.
Wilson will take the field against his former team with talented players like Melvin Gordon III, Javonte Williams, Jerry Jeudy, and Courtland Sutton.
Finally, there’s a chance that Joe Flacco plays in Week 1 against his former squad, the Baltimore Ravens.
New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson required surgery on his right knee and it might take him four to six weeks to recover.
That said, Flacco could suit up for the squad that drafted him and won a Super Bowl with during the 2012 season.
After 11 seasons with the Ravens, Flacco was traded to the Broncos during the 2019 offseason in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
