Programming for television has changed a lot in the past 20 years.
Gone away is a family sitting down at 7:00 to watch the newest episode of their favorite sitcom, which is largely due to the tens of streaming platforms that exist.
One thing has remained constant throughout the years, though, which is live sports.
Live sports are a phenomenon that is not going away anytime soon, but, although there are many options to choose from, one league has remained on top of overall viewership in 2022.
The NFL represented 82 of the 100 most-watched U.S. TV broadcasts in 2022, up from 75 in 2021. The next biggest category was college football with 5 broadcasts. pic.twitter.com/migUHD2ZxA

The NFL remains king.
Of the most-watched live television events in 2022, the NFL accounted for 88 of them, including nine of the top ten spots.
Whether it is the never-ending off-field drama, the amount of money that is invested in the league, or simply a genuine passion for the game, the NFL has remained the most popular televised live event.
NFL games were more popular than the Olympics and the World Cup, even though these events occur every four years.
The NFL has captivated live audiences all around the world.
So much so, that the NFL has dedicated itself to having multiple international games played in different countries for the next ten years.
Some of these host countries include the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, and Australia, to name a few.
The NFL is constantly growing in popularity, and by continuing to have these games played outside of the United States, it will only continue its rapid growth.
Will another sport ever overtake the NFL’s amount of airtime?
