Juan Soto is now officially a San Diego Padre.
Yesterday was the day of the trade deadline, and one of the first moves of the day was the Soto trade.
The Padres are now loaded and ready to take a shot at a World Series title, and the Nationals are left with basically nothing.
On Twitter, the Nationals posted a very odd farewell tweet, featuring a photo of Soto going into the clubhouse with the 2019 World Series Champions logo above him and a caption that read “Forever.”

Nationals Bid Farewell…Sort Of
It’s interesting that the team willingly traded away Soto, but now are posting this tweet that essentially says that he’ll forever be a National in their hearts.
While it’s a nice gesture and true that he’ll always hold a special place in their hearts, it was still the Nationals that were unable to sign him to a contract extension, refused to charter him a private flight to Los Angeles for the All-Star Game, and ultimately traded him.
To be fair, that was really the front office’s doing, not the people running the Nationals Twitter account, but they’re all connected in some way, and this is sort of a weird farewell message.
What might have been better is them posting an actual message thanking him for all of the great times during his tenure as Washington National.
That probably would have made much more sense.
But they chose to go with this instead, which is just a bit odd.
At least Soto posted a more heartfelt goodbye to the Nationals and their fans.
