The New York Mets took the first game of the Subway Series last night against the New York Yankees with a 6-3 score.
Taijuan Walker was brilliant on the mound, and the offense responded with a solid game.
With that victory, the Mets reached 60: such a high level of play wasn’t a given when they lost star pitcher Jacob deGrom to a shoulder injury in spring training.
However, the Mets have improved across the board and are now an elite organization, with the ability to make sound roster decisions, amazing player development staff and coaching, and a savvy, veteran manager to lead them all from the dugout in Buck Showalter.
The Mets are 60-37, one of their best starts in recent memory.
“With last night’s 6-3 win over the Yankees, the Mets recorded their 60th win in their 97th game this season. That marks the 2nd-fewest games played to 60 wins in franchise history. The fewest is 85 games in 1986. That same year the Mets won their 2nd World Series,” ESPN Stats & Info tweeted.

Can The 2022 Mets Make History?
That tweet tells us two things: one, the 2022 Mets look like a special unit and will be even better when they get deGrom back, presumably next week.
And two, those 1986 Mets were unbelievable.
Starting off a season with a 60-25 record is no joke.
That squad had players such as Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, Gary Carter, Lenny Dykstra, Mookie Wilson, and many other star contributors.
Can the 2022 Mets emulate what they achieved 36 years ago?
They will have a ton of competition: the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves, the Yankees, and the Houston Astros are looking just as strong as the Mets.
However, with those two aces and a couple of deadline acquisitions, the Mets could look formidable.
