MLB Network has been publishing some interesting positional rankings ahead of the 2023 season.
The name of the series is “Top 10 Players Right Now” at each position.
As you would probably expect from a team that has made impact signing after impact signing for two consecutive offseasons, the New York Mets landed several players on each position’s top ten.
“The Mets placed eight names on MLB Network’s ‘Top 10 Players Right Now’ list of the best at each position: DÃaz: No. 1 RP; McNeil: No. 2 2B; Verlander: No. 2 SP; Nimmo: No. 4 CF; Scherzer: No. 4 SP; Alonso: No. 5 1B; Lindor: No. 5 SS; Marte: No. 7 RF,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Clearly, the team has brought in a lot of talent since Steve Cohen took over as owner.
Edwin Diaz is the clear top dog at the reliever position, with 118 strikeouts and a minuscule 1.31 ERA in 2022.
The league is full of dominant bullpen arms, but no one can match Diaz’s strikeout prowess and run-prevention skills.
Jeff McNeil just won a batting title and earned a nice extension.
Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer might be old, but they sure remain steady and effective.
The former won the AL Cy Young in 2022 and the latter would have contended for the NL one had he pitched enough innings.
Brandon Nimmo is one of MLB’s most underrated stars, and is a terrific offensive and defensive center fielder.
He is one of the most important players on the Mets, otherwise he wouldn’t have earned a $160 million contract.
Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Starling Marte are actually the heart of the Mets’ lineup.
New York is filled with stars, and will take another shot at the title in 2023.
