Monday was a special day for the New York Mets and their manager Buck Showalter.
While baseball is a game that requires a ton of focus and discipline to remain prepared for the competition, there have to be some moments of levity, and the Mets and their manager got one.
It just so happened to be Showalter’s birthday.
Mets insider Tim Healy tweeted about a little surprise Showalter’s players had for him.
The players put a blindfold on him and led him to the batting cage, where they surprised him with singing and cheering before Showalter got a chance to put a baseball bat to a piñata.
How the Mets celebrated Buck Showalter’s birthday today: They gathered in the batting cage, put on party hats & turned off the lights.
Eduardo Escobar led a blindfolded Showalter there. Cheering & singing ensued. Showalter took a baseball bat to a piñata. Very wholesome, nice.

Happy Birthday, Buck Showalter!
This is a nice little surprise the Mets gave their manager.
Even amidst the competition, you’ve got to take time to celebrate things such as birthdays, and the Mets sure did that.
It’s nice to see them show that appreciation for their new manager and what he has done with the team so far this season.
They clearly like what he’s doing and have a great deal of respect for him, enough that they even threw a party for him.
You can bet that Showalter enjoyed his little surprise.
He’s an old school manager who is very businesslike, but last night he got a chance to let loose with the players that love and respect him so much and are enjoying having a guy as successful as he is around.
The Mets made sure to do everything they could to make him feel special on his big day.
