The New York Mets have the fourth-best record in baseball, and second in the National League, at 51-31.
They have been surprisingly amazing, especially because much of their success has come without Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer.
Rather than having a single star whose play stands out above the rest, like the New York Yankees with Aaron Judge, the Mets have enjoyed a collection of above-average hitters and pitchers.
Starling Marte, Mark Canha, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil, and Luis Guillorme have all performed like above-average offensive players so far.
On the pitching side, the same can be said about Taijuan Walker, Scherzer, Chris Bassitt, Edwin Diaz, David Peterson, Adam Ottavino, Seth Lugo, and others.
The Mets Probably Won’t Have Any Position Players Starting The All-Star Game
As a result of the all-around balanced play, the Mets are in danger of not having any starters on the National League team for July 19 All-Star Game.
“If voting for All-Star finalists ended today, the Mets would not have any starters on the NL team, according to ballot percentage totals released by the league. Pete Alonso trails Paul Goldschmidt by a wide margin, while Starling Marte is behind Mookie Betts and Joc Pederson,” MLB.com beat writer for the Mets Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Goldschmidt, in all fairness, deserves to be the starting first baseman in the National League.
As for Marte, he has been excellent, but Betts and Pederson have probably been better.
In any case, they should have a couple of pitchers making the game, but surprisingly, none of their offensive players currently project to start.
It’s an odd situation, but that’s the way it goes with MLB’s current voting system.
