The New York Mets have had a rough time with injuries in the 2023 season so far.
They lost their closer even before the season started, as Edwin Diaz tore his knee ligaments in the World Baseball Classic.
A veteran has been called upon to replace Diaz, and he has done a magnificent job.
“The limitations on David Robertson’s usage are what they are, but it’s worth it from the Mets’ perspective if he continues to be nails. So far this season: 13.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 18 K, 0.68 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 6/6 in save opportunities, plus two holds,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Robertson has been a breath of fresh air for the Mets.
They needed someone with the perfect blend of current talent level and experience to stabilize the back of the bullpen.
Robertson has been that guy for them.
The limitations in usage that DiComo mentions may have something to do with the fact that he has surpassed one inning of work in just two of his 12 outings.
That may indicate the team is using him with a clean inning as opposed to a “fireman” role to clean up messes when they appear.
Still, in any case, there is a lot of value in giving the team a clean inning almost every time.
His 0.68 ERA is fantastic, and means he has conceded just one earned run all season.
It’s refreshing to see the 38-year-old closer still dominating hitters.
He has been pitching in the majors since 2008, and is still going strong.
The Mets have been lucky to have him, and fans feel the same way.
