The Dallas Mavericks signed veteran NBA star Kemba Walker to a one-year, non-guaranteed $1.3 million contract back on November 29.
Due to the particulars of this contract, it would have become fully guaranteed this Saturday, January 7, if Walker wasn’t waived.
The aging guard hasn’t gotten many minutes with the team since joining in late November, so there were many questions about his future within the Mavs.
The questions will remain no longer.

Marc Stein is reporting that the Mavericks are in fact waiving Walker, meaning that his time with Dallas is over and he will once again be a free agent on the market looking for a home within the league.
During his time with the Mavs, Walker averaged 8 points in 16 minutes over 9 games.
He was shooting 41.1% from the field and 25% from the three-point line, with his best performance being on December 17 when he scored a season-best 32 points on 12-of-25 from the field, with 5 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The honest and simple truth is that Walker’s numerous injuries over the years mean that his time on the floor has to be limited, lest he is hurt again.
Head coach Jason Kidd acknowledged that a few weeks ago when he remarked on Walker’s limited availability.
Now the question is what will happen to Walker after this move: is he bound for another team or will he wait in limbo?
The man still has talent, although his days of being a starter are probably over.
Sadly, there is a long list of former NBA All-Stars who are still waiting on a phone call and remain free agents despite years of success within the league.
It’s not clear where Walker goes from here.
