So far this season, Christian Wood has been averaging 17.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists with his new team, the Dallas Mavericks.
He has shown that the team’s acquisition of him in the summer was a very smart move as he has become a crucial part of the team’s success.
Therefore, it’s not a huge shock to hear that the franchise wants to keep him around.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN is reporting that the Mavericks have an interest in offering Wood a two-year contract extension which would be for a maximum of $36 million.
That’s a lot of money but Wood might want more, especially considering how well he’s been playing lately.
The Mavericks have won their last seven games and Wood has been a part of them all.
Although he came to the team as a bench player, he has actually started in the last 9 games.
During those games, he scored double-digits repeatedly, including one game where he reached 30 points.
Wood has really come into his own even more now that he’s playing for Dallas and he might want to earn a bigger paycheck.
If that happens, the Mavericks will have a tough conundrum on their hands: do they pay him a heftier fee, or do they let him go to another franchise that will?
We will see what happens over the next few weeks.
Dallas is trying to climb even higher in the standings and Wood is wanting to be a major part of their victories.
If they keep winning, he may be able to convince them to move some money around and give him a bigger, better deal.
