With quarterback Zach Wilson still sidelined by injury, the choice for the New York Jets‘ Week 1 starter became easier.
All head coach Robert Saleh had to do was to choose between veteran Joe Flacco and upstart Mike White.
The Jets went with experience, as NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Rapoport tweeted, “Sources: The #Jets are starting QB Joe Flacco on Sunday vs. the #Ravens, as Flacco is set to face his old team. Zach Wilson (knee) is progressing well, but not quite ready.”
Ironically, Flacco will be going up against the Baltimore Ravens, the team wherein he enjoyed most of his success.
It was with the Ravens that Flacco became a Super Bowl champion, winning Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers.
He was also that game’s Most Valuable Player.
Flacco also won Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year in 2008.
After playing eleven seasons in Baltimore, Flacco suited up for the Denver Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 37-year-old quarterback is on his second stint with the Jets after being traded from the Eagles.
Update On Wilson’s Injury
ESPN’s Rich Cimini said that Wilson underwent a workout to see how his knee responds.
Still, the Jets will not rush him back.
With Wilson as their long-term option at quarterback, the team won’t rush his return until he feels 100 percent.
Putting him back in sooner than needed might aggravate his condition and prolong his absence.
Wilson suffered a non-contact injury to his right knee during their preseason game versus the Eagles.
He underwent surgery last month for a bone bruise and meniscus tear.
