While football is a complicated team sport, and it’s often hard to point the finger at just one guy, most of us will agree that Zach Wilson was the reason why the New York Jets didn’t make the playoffs.
The Jets surrounded him with plenty of talent in Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Breece Hall and later acquired James Robinson when he got hurt,
Their offensive play-calling wasn’t always elite, but they did manage to move the chains and put up points with three different QBs behind center, none of them Wilson.
So, speculation grew about the BYU product and his future with the organization, with most fans and analysts predicting the Jets would go for a top-tier QB in the offseason.
Those rumors have only become stronger now that they’ve hired former Nathaniel Hackett, who failed in a brief stint as the Denver Broncos’ HC.
Their top choice for the last week or so. The decision was Hackett’s about whether he wanted to return to coaching so soon. Robert Saleh interviewed about 15 people. Ended up with choice No. 1. https://t.co/ZaEGuy61i8

Nonetheless, as bad as Hackett was in Denver, he’s been quite successful as an offensive play-caller in Buffalo and Jacksonville, not to mention his success in Green Bay.
But why does this matter, and what does it have to do with Wilson?
Well, Hackett is Aaron Rodgers‘ guy, and vice versa.
In fact, the Broncos may have only hired Hackett in a desperate attempt to trade for Rodgers and then pretty much had to live with the results once that didn’t happen.
Rodgers has once again left the door open for a trade away from the Packers, and the Jets have both the money and draft assets to pull the trigger and get the job done.
