For a brief time, the Charlotte Hornets were a family affair.
The team recently signed LiAngelo Ball to a non-guaranteed contract, meaning that he stood a chance to play alongside his brother LaMelo Ball in the new season.
The concept of brothers playing together on the same team has become more and more common over the years but the Balls promised to be perhaps the best sibling pair in the league.

It looks like we won’t get to see just how great these two can be on the same team.
The Hornets waived LiAngelo over the weekend, meaning that he is now once again without an NBA team to call his own.
As for his brother, he is also experiencing his own share of problems.
LiAngelo Lacking
After being signed to his non-guaranteed deal, Ball didn’t really impress the front office.
He played in a few preseason games but didn’t finish with more than two points during any match.
All of this follows a season with the Hornets’ Summer League team in 2021 and the 2021-22 season with G League team the Greensboro Swarm.
Ball averaged 4.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists during his time with the Swarm.
The hope was that LiAngelo would become the third Ball brother to become an NBA star but it looks like those plans are on hold – at least for now.
As for his older brother LaMelo, he will miss the beginning of the season because of yet another injury.
He is expected to return soon but will the Hornets have already dug themselves into a hole by then?
Right now, all three Ball brothers are facing adversity: two of them are injured and one of them just got waived by his team.
