The Memphis Grizzlies are way ahead of schedule in their rebuild.
They were perennial contenders during those golden years of the ‘grit-and-grind’ era featuring Mike Conley, Tony Allen, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph.
Not many teams have been able to transition from one era to the other as quickly and smoothly as the Grizzlies have, but they’ve been a legit threat out of the Western Conference ever since Ja Morant made it to the league.
However, this team went from relatable and easy to root for to villains in little-to-no time.
So, it wasn’t all that surprising to see them nearly get into a physical altercation with NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe during their trip to Los Angeles to face the Lakers.
Sharpe reportedly told Dillon Brooks that he was too small to guard LeBron James, which prompted the Canadian guard to curse him out, and things escalated quite quickly.
Steven Adams and Morant’s father had to be held back, while Sharpe was also out of control and ready to get in the ring with whoever stood in his way.
Notably, that borderline ridiculous incident could’ve been the start of the Grizzlies’ downfall, as they’ve failed to win a single game very since, including that very same matchup versus the Lakers.

The Grizzlies have done a lot of talking as of late, with Morant stating that he’s ‘good’ in the West and Brooks constantly provoking every star player by stating the can lock them up.
That’s cool; it’s always nice to be confident.
But these young guns need to win something first before doing all that talking, so they better not lose their focus now that the most crucial stretch of the season sits ahead of them.
