This day will forever be marked in New York Giants, NFL, and Super Bowl history.
February 3, 2023, marks the 15th anniversary of the legendary Helmet Catch, a play that prevented the New England Patriots from becoming undefeated champions and that gave the Giants their third Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Down 14-10, on 3rd & 5, and with 1:15 left to play in the fourth quarter, Eli Manning dropped back and made the most of a broken play with a 32-yard completion to WR David Tyree, who made an acrobatic catch by pressing the ball against his helmet to prevent it from touching the ground.
15 years ago today, Eli Manning and the Giants took down the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

The Giants continued to march down the field, and Plaxico Burress caught the game-winning touchdown, spoiling the Patriots’ season after going 18-0.
This has been deemed one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history.
The Patriots were 12-point favorites before kick-off, with the fifth-seeded Giants going on one of the most unlikely and exciting postseason runs in NFL history.
Moreover, this would’ve been Tom Brady’s fourth Super Bowl win and the first since winning back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.
Then, four years later, these two teams squared off in the Super Bowl again, with the younger Manning brother getting the last laugh again.
It’s crazy to think that, of all people and the legendary quarterbacks he faced throughout his career, it was Eli Manning and Nick Foles as the ones who stopped Brady from winning ten rings.
