On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates officially signed franchise third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to an eight-year, $70 million contract extension with a team option for the 2030 season.
The pact was already agreed upon last week, but the two sides made it official and put together a press conference for the player to voice his impressions.
The player was thrilled to sign and is eager to be a part of the Pirates’ future.
The franchise had some things to say about Hayes, specifically chairman Bob Nutting.
Per MLB.com: “Ke’Bryan is the type of core player who is a winner on the field, a leader in the clubhouse and engaged in our community. He is the type of player who makes a true difference in the direction of our organization. Today isn’t about a contract, its length, or the terms. Today is about our firm belief in Ke’Bryan as a player and person, and our organization putting a stake in the ground moving forward.”
Good Teammates Are There For Each Other, For Better Or Worse
Hayes said he feels the Pirates are building something great for the future.
And beyond any discussion about talent or where the Pirates will end in the 2022 standings with or without Hayes, the quality of the human beings in the franchise appears to be top-notch.
The Pirates roster was there with Hayes as he got the news he was waiting for: life-changing money.
Good teammates are there for each other to celebrate the good times and to help them cope and fight back during the bad ones.
“The entire team is here along the wall for Ke’Bryan Hayes’ press conference. It smells like a middle school locker room radiating with Axe Body spray,” Jenna Harner tweeted.
