The Los Angeles Dodgers are comfortably ahead of the competition.
They are the best team in Major League Baseball.
As incredible as it may sound, they are 50 games over .500: yes, their record is, as of Monday afternoon, 88-38.
They have a 19.5-game cushion over the San Diego Padres in the NL West division, and look virtually unbeatable.
MLB’s most recent power rankings, naturally, have the Dodgers on top.
The power rankings are a very good exercise, not only to know which are the teams with the best performance so far, but also those who are hot in recent weeks and days.
These teams are ending August on the right foot.

As the tweet states, these are the teams that, considering current ranking and recent performance, are ending the month in a good position.
The Dodgers Are Head And Shoulders Above Everyone Else
The Dodgers are head and shoulders above the rest of the league, with the New York Mets coming in at second place.
The two teams will square off this week, starting on Tuesday, at Citi Field.
It will be a huge test for the Mets, as they try to fend off the Atlanta Braves in an attempt to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs.
The Houston Astros, owners of the best record in the American League, are third in the power rankings.
They are currently dealing with injury questions regarding their best hitter (Yordan Alvarez) and pitcher (Justin Verlander), but also have a comfortable cushion in the AL West.
The Braves are fourth, and the struggling Yankees, who have a 14-22 record in the second half, are fifth.
That foursome, plus other squads such as the Padres, the St. Louis Cardinals, the rest of the AL East powerhouses or the Seattle Mariners, could surprise the Dodgers.
Los Angeles, however, holds the keys to its own destiny.
