On Monday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence.
He was released on a $50,000 bond and has to be in court on September 27 to answer to the justice system.
It’s his second similar offense if we include his 20-game suspension in MLB in 2019, but he wasn’t charged at the time.
While the baseball community and society in general is thinking about the well-being of the victim, the news put the team in a difficult spot for a variety of reasons.
They now have to stop counting on the player, as MLB announced Wednesday that he was placed on administrative leave.
In addition to not having the player, it’s also a logistics nightmare (not to mention the obvious PR headache).
The Dodgers had a Urias bobblehead night planned for September 21 and there is no way that’s happening anymore.
They announced a change of plans.
“The Dodgers are replacing the Julio Urías bobblehead promotion for the night of September 21 with a giveaway of select premium bobbleheads to the first 30,000 fans in attendance. For more information visit, Dodgers.com/promotions,” the team wrote via its official Twitter account.

The league is conducting its own investigation and will likely suspend Urias even if the case doesn’t advance in the ordinary justice stages.
