The Chicago Cubs are well out of postseason contention at this point in the schedule, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t get hot and play a little spoiler down the stretch.
While they aren’t playing good baseball right now, they have a couple of guys who are really swinging the bat quite well.
Nico Hoerner, Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, and Franmil Reyes have all been swinging hot bats lately and have given the Cubs a slightly different look in their lineup.
Since August 9, Hoerner and Reyes have posted a 118 wRC+, while Happ and Suzuki have each posted a wRC+ of 128 and 136, respectively.

Cubs Have A Solid Group Of Young Stars
This is a good sign for the Cubs as they end what has been a trying season.
Four guys hitting as well as these guys have been hitting can give your lineup a pretty different look.
It could be enough to help the Cubs start winning some games and potentially play some spoiler down the stretch.
They’ll have a chance to do that this week as they open up a three-game series with the New York Mets at Citi Field.
All of these players should be returning to the Cubs next season.
That could give the Cubs front office something to build around if they want to try and add some pieces and make the Cubs a contending ballclub again.
Reyes especially would make for a solid designated hitter option.
As for the rest of them, these could be good pieces for the future.
Happ is a free agent after 2023, so the Cubs could focus on extending him and keeping these four players together for as long as they can afford to.
