The Washington Commanders have had a roller-coaster of a season.
They’ve endured winning streaks, losing streaks, and even one tie.
To make matters worse, they can’t seem to get a handle on who is leading their team, particularly at the quarterback position.
The #Commanders are expected to turn back to Taylor Heinicke as the starter for Sunday’s season finale vs. the #Cowboys, but rookie QB Sam Howell is also slated to play, marking the NFL debut for the fifth-round pick, per source. Barring change of plans, this will be the setup.

The Commanders are going back to Taylor Heinicke as their starter, effectively benching Carson Wentz again.
Wentz started the first six games of the season, starting the Commanders off to a 2-4 start.
The Commanders then turned the reins over to Heinicke, winning five of their next six games before tying one, and losing the next two.
Once again, the Commanders chose to go away from Heinicke and back to Wentz, who lost their game on Sunday.
Simply put, the Commanders are indecisive at best, leaving the entire team to question their leadership.
When a team switches quarterbacks as much as the Commanders have, they open themselves to confusion and a lack of camaraderie.
Receivers can’t get established in the passing game, running backs are unable to get in any sort of a rhythm, and the offensive line loses the opportunity to learn how their quarterbacks play.
With all of this in mind, it’s no wonder that the Commanders missed the playoffs this season.
Will they be able to turn it around in 2023?
They will have to figure out who their answer is at quarterback, and, unless there is some sort of major injury, commit to one quarterback for the whole season.
Their entire team’s chemistry and overall dynamics depend on it.
