The Los Angeles Chargers have found themselves in a bind to start free agency.
They were hoping to reload their offense this offseason and make another run at the playoffs next year.
But, running back Austin Ekeler has a new contract in mind.
The star running back is entering the final year of his current deal, and he wants to have some financial stability.
With the position that he plays, it makes sense he does not want to play on a one-year deal.
Ekeler has been one of the best running backs in the NFL over the past few seasons.
He is a great runner, but where he dominates is in the passing game.
You could make a strong argument that he is the best pass-catching running back in the NFL.
But, the Chargers and Ekeler have failed to make any strides in a new deal.
According to Adam Schefter, the Chargers have granted permission for Ekeler to seek a trade.
Chargers granted permission to RB Austin Ekeler today to seek a trade after the two sides failed to make progress for a new contract, per his agent Cameron Weiss.

Just last season, Ekeler had 107 receptions for 722 yards and five touchdowns.
Seeing 100+ receptions from a running back is very rare.
But, Ekeler has a rare skill set.
Also, he has not taken the hits many other running backs have between the tackles.
He only rushed 204 times last year, which was 20th in the league.
Ekeler will be 28 next season, and should still have a few great years ahead of him.
Any team looking for an offensive weapon should be interested in trading for the Chargers’ star.
It will be interesting to see where he is playing next season.NEXT: The Chargers Have Signed A Longtime Vikings Star LB
