The Boston Celtics are hoping to return to the NBA Finals at the end of this season but they know they can only do that if their whole roster is strong.
Sadly, they are already experiencing some injury problems.
Danilo Gallinari, who was supposed to be a new helpful bench player, will miss the entire season due to an ACL injury.
And Robert Williams, who has become a crucial part of the team’s defense, also hurt his knee.
According to @ShamsCharania on #RunItBack this morning, #Celtics big man Robert Williams recently underwent a PRP procedure in his knee and could return in the second half of the season pic.twitter.com/rSb7EPsWP2

Now we have a clearer timetable for Williams’ return – and it isn’t great.
The latest reporting says that Williams underwent a PRP procedure in his knee and could return in the second half of the season.
It is important to note that this is serious surgery.
It is also important to keep in mind that Shams Charania’s reporting says that Williams could return for the second half of the season – there is no guarantee that he will.
So, where does that leave the Celtics?
Life Without Williams
This entire situation pretty much puts Boston where they have been before: playing without their star center.
Williams is a great part of the team (10 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2 assists in 2021-22) but he has suffered quite a few injuries during his time in the league.
The injuries have seemed more consistent lately and that is greatly concerning but there is hope that this latest surgery will fix his problems for a long time.
The team wants and needs Williams to be healthy, he makes life so much easier and creates incredible defense.
Boston has a lot of options but they don’t have too many when it comes to filling the void left by Williams.
They can rely on Al Horford but he’s older and injury-prone too.
The Celtics can and have survived without Williams, but they don’t like it.
